REVIEW: Shea Moisture’s Red Palm Oil & Cocoa Butter Line

Shea Moisture has an endless list of product lines to choose from. Seriously, they have something for everyone: low porosity hair, high porosity hair, transitioning hair, dry hair, and more! Whatever your hair type or whatever your hair may need, Shea Moisture is bound to have a line that will cater to you.

I was immediately drawn to their Red Palm Oil & Cocoa Butter line because it contains flaxseed oil and says it is specifically for “Curly, Coily, Shrinkage Prone Hair.” That’s me! I have coarse, coily hair and so much shrinkage! Shrinkage is a sign of healthy hair however, sometimes you want to show off a little length. Flaxseed is great for elongating your curls. In the past, my hair has reacted very well to flaxseed gel so I figured this product would work great as well.

Here’s how this line worked on my 4C low porosity hair.

I will start off by saying this whole line smells amazing. The cocoa butter really brings forth warm scents while the red palm oil brings in a hint of floral fragrance.

I tried out three products from this line. The first being the Detangling Shampoo. This was a very pleasant cleansing experience. I shampoo my hair once a week, but I don’t like to use harsh stripping shampoos that rid my hair of all its natural oils. This shampoo was very creamy, moisturizing, and did not dry out my hair.

The Detangling Shampoo is supposed to help you start to detangle your hair. I would definitely say that I was able to run my fingers through my hair which I am not always able to do with other shampoos.

The next product I tried was the Leave-in or Rinse-out Conditioner. This conditioner is the!! I first tried it as a rinse-out conditioner and that was okay. It was your typical conditioning experience. Then I tried it as a leave-in conditioner and let me tell you… my hair has found its true love.

This conditioner is packed with so much moisture that it is able to easily penetrate my hair. I have low porosity hair so that means the pores on my hair strands don’t like to open up to let moisture into the strands. When I applied this conditioner to my hair as a leave-in it just melted right into my hair. I didn’t want to wash it out!

The last product I tried was the Curl Stretch Pudding. The name does not lie. I used the Curl Stretch Pudding to do a twist-out which is my go to stretched hairstyle. I was shocked at how stretched my hair was and how much hold I received from the pudding. So much so, that my twist-out stayed defined and elongated for 4-5 days. Usually I can only get 2-3 days out of my twist-out.

As you can see, my experience with this Shea Moisture line just kept getting better and better. The Red Palm Oil & Cocoa Butter line gave my hair moisture, hold, and shine. What more could you ask for?

The Red Palm Oil & Cocoa Butter line has definitely become a favorite. I am eager to try some of the other products in the line such as the Styling Gelee.

You can find the Red Palm Oil & Cocoa Butter products at Sally Beauty, Walmart, Target, and of course The retail for anywhere between $8-$14.

Tell me, what’s your favorite Shea Moisture line?
